So yesterday I did not have any thing to do after work and headed over to the Hammerstein Ballroom. Being a teacher pays off with being able to leave work around 3. I brought my Dave skinny Kenny Smith poster and my Budich Dave faces hoping to get them signed. When I got there, Dave was already inside. I noticed his car because the driver was holding a sign that said, "Dave Matthews".
Dave must have been soundchecking becuase he came out around 30 minutes after I got there by himself. He spotted my posters and came over. After shaking my hand, he asked if I wanted him to sign the posters. He laughed at how skinny he was in Kenny's poster and was confused about the Dave faces, but then figured out it was him. After I told him my name he personalized the first poster. I told him this weekend's shows at MSG were going to be my 59 and 60th shows. I then joked that in all those shows I only heard Song That Jane Likes once. He asked, " Really? What night do you want to hear it?" I said how about night 1? My luaghed and said he would try and remember.
I told him he was a class act all around. After thanking me he left. Aside from being a great musician, he truly is a great guy! I had a blast and can't wait for MSG.

That's sweet.
It would be sweet to just have a convo with him, even if he didn't sign anything. I bet he's pretty awesome to talk to

Great story. That was nice that he approached you. No STJL N1, maybe it will show up N2 though.

Thank you all for the comments! Dave Posters is a very helpful place to be a part of. Actually, meeting Dave is what basically made me a fan. When I was in college in '01, my friend asked if I wanted to go see the band at Giants Stadium. This was my first concert ever, so I was even more excited when he said get something to try and have signed. He thought he knew where the band was staying so he went over. The only thing I could find was this huge poster at the mall.
That day I got Dave, Stefan, and Boyd on the poster. That night I saw an amazing show with the two step in the thunder and rain closing. I went back the next day to try and complete the poster. When I got there Dave came out and walked over to me. He sid you were here yeasterday. I thought he was pissed, but he apologized. He said sorry I couldn't talk, but one of the people there the day before was a dealer.
I told him how great the concert was and we talked for a minute about the band. He asked what I had to have signed, and I had nothing. I asked for a picture and he said sure. He called his friend out of the hotel and had him take the picture. When they were on Letterman a few years ago, Dave personalized the picture to me! All of the sudden after the picture. Dave goes, "I gotta go back in! I need to take a sh*t!" His friend just shook his head and Dave and I laughed.
I was able to get Carter that day, but never Leroi. The day I got my photo with Leroi was a day I didn't bring my poster, a decision that bothers me everytime I look at the poster. Oh well. But after meeting Dave, I was hooked and tonight will be my 60th show.
Ironically, my wife was at that same Giants Stadium show with her sister, and DMB was actually one of the first things we talked about when we met 3 years ago. Luckily, she is as avid of a fan as I am, or I'd have some explaining to do. haha

Stories like these are what makes this band so great and one of the many reasons why I love it so much.

killer feel good story, after 74 shows I've never had a conversation with anyone for an extended period of time, just a thank you as they sign the tickets, coolest thing was, before Beacon, Boyd came over to me, as he signed my ticket I said, "Thank you for everything you do man, I've followed ya'll since 1995, and you've helped me through more than you'd ever imagine" His response? (lifting up his sunglasses and locking eyes on mine) "No dude, THANK YOU" and flashed that pearly white grin!!!!!!!!!!!
