I will add my experience over the weekend with many dp'ers: some cool/most.....they are fairly entitled folks imo. Once everyone caught wind special posters were made for vips only....you should have seen how many of them were running up the stairs to the vip recep/merch line saying "hey pal are you going to buy a poster?" Most replies were "no bro I am just standing in line two hours to purchase one for you." once folks were getting their posters, straps, etc. some dp'ers who were in vip (can tell by their stickers and weapon like poster tubes they carry from home) would be like "trade me man I really want that number, etc." Many would line up two nights in a row to get the strap for friends (which they were entitled to do) but let the folks who paid $375 get the good special stuff. Just did not like the vibe many of them put out like they should get these prints/straps over others. Shell out the VIP bread and get the good stuff. otherwise accept what is at the other merch booths that they have/had access to. Just my observation over the weekend.

Ah I remember that thread. Got an extra because his girlfriend bought one that he didn't know about. So he goes and flips it for a profit (without sharing the profits with her, his only reason for having an extra in the first place) before it's even shipped (although he did say that it wouldn't be paid for until he received it), then he calls the person who bought it from him "dumb" for paying his asking price. What I don't understand is why some people feel like someone is forcing them to use Daveposters.com for anything. I mean if you don't want to be a part of the community, then don't. That's perfectly fine. All we're saying is that if you just want to sell posters, use ebay. If you want to discuss DMB, concert posters, or other art, then that's a good place to go. If not, no big deal. Just don't go there expecting a one-sided relationship where you just show up to sell posters and move on. That just isn't how it works over there. If you don't agree with that, that's fine, but there isn't a need to hate on it because it turned out be different than you expected.

Oh every online community has cliques, no doubt about it. What's funny is that they make statements about DP putting it in that category as if having tight-knit groups is some kind of thing to be ashamed of when they take it to a whole other level of actually ranking people and groups (even if it is just for fun, it does say something about the mindset over there).

Damn right! :lol It's really more of a respect thing. This community isn't meant to be just used and abused. You're expected to contribute to it, which is what draws me to this community more than any other. It's a rare thing to find a community that expects that and I think a lot of people get surprised when they find out. Some get turned off by it because they are accustomed to just taking and not giving. Others embrace the idea and run with it.

Back when I used to lurk on DP and didn't have an account (late 2008), I remember reading about a couple of huge scams that came through this place. People sent money for prints and never received them and yada yada. I'm too lazy to find the threads right now. Anyways, I think that's why DP is so protective about its regulars and so hard on the newbies.

I agree. It sort of is like an intiation. New people have to be evaluated to make sure they are not out to screw people over because it's happened in the past. I wasn't around then either, but I understand it. Some people will understand it, some people won't. I just find it pathetic when the people who don't understand it feel like they need to put it down just to make themselves feel better about not fitting in.

This is gonna get ugly for no reason..... some people said some things, other people said some things -- some good people here, some good people there -- always some not soo good people in the bunch.

We should all just put this ugly situation behind us and just agree to disagree. Some people like WH poster boards .... cool -- other people like DP.com ..... cool -- We all hate MT and the way they ship !!

Thanks. And if people actually read what I wrote over there, they would know that several times I said positive things about this forum and many of its membership. Never once did I name call or slander anyone. That sort of behavior is shameful, and its shameful you all allow it.

All I have been saying is that if you all want this to be a "community" and not have people so turned off or come in and violate these so-called rules you all have here, then make the rules known and educate new people who come in as to how how you all like things to operate here. Don't assume people will know, especially when upon first log-in they see people selling stuff over face (often way over face, which has no context to a new member). also, self-policing would do you all some good too when people lay in with name calling and attacks.

Or if you really don't want new people, and want to keep it the way it is with secret rules, then don't make it free. Or change the criteria for people to join. Seems pretty easy.

Just to clarify, your FD FS thread was very tame...no one really got out of hand...questions were raised about getting a non-rolled poster (rightfully so), and about condition, which turned out to be needed.
