The exhibition starts on March 4th and the gallery will be selling the prints at that time. Daniel said the ones from the gallery will be cut into the two halves as shown in the picture. He said he would sell uncut versions himself at a later time. Probably a couple weeks after the exhibition closes would be my guess, but I have no idea.


Let me know when you make it out here, I'll give you some tips or meet you for a beer :)

That would be good. I was finally able to hit up Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field last year, so now I need to knock out Fenway soon. It will almost certainly happen in 2011.

This print is going to be a huge deal. Just read the discussion over at Ebeans. It's getting hyped up like no other. Everyone is hoping the print run is large though and Daniel almost made it sound like the uncut version would be when he announced it. I'm hoping it's somewhere around like 400. That might be optimistic to get it that high, but I'm not sure. I'm not an expert on Danger print runs. This print will be very popular though, no doubt.

The cut version will be out of 100 and goes on sale when the exhibition opens on March 4th. That will be sold through the gallery.

This one might be. When the Jabberwock print went on sale on his site it was gone immediately as well as some others. Some of his prints are very popular. This print has caught the eye of a lot of people though, even people who aren't big fans of Danger. Depending on the print run, this one will be tough most likely.

Tough to say. The Ghost Ship print original price was $100, but that was like an 11-screen print or something. I would say $100 would be the absolute most, but I would expect something closer to $60 or so. Just guessing though.

hey all,
getting a huuuuuuuge response to the fenway print i did. so heres the rundown, because im getting an ocean of emails about these. there are two versions…
the image as a diptych, each side 11×22″ image size. $100, edition of 100 sets.
the image as a single oversized print, 11×44″ image size. $100, edition of 200.
gallery1988 will have 50 copies of each for sale through the show.
TME will release the remaining copies online AFTER the show comes down, in roughly a month.
get on the mailing list if you aren’t already, thats the key for further information when the time comes.

Nope, it won't be until the end of the month at the earliest. Daniel posted that it would happen sometime after the end of the exhibition, which ends on the 26th. Daniel isn't the most punctual person either, so don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen. It will happen of course, but there is no set date yet.

I was just reading his website and he said on January 12, 2010 that he would be releasing info for his Lost print that he did "in a few days". It still hasn't been released yet or no release info is out yet as far as I know. Don't hold your breath for this.

This is my uncut Sunny Days. Obviously different framing considerations with the doodle, but my point is that you can cover a lot of the excess with big mats. I was going to trade by Ghost Ship for the uncut, but didn;t work out the trade. Is your uncut a subscriber edition? Also, is that a bent corner in the pic, or just light?

Right on. The corner just looks like that in the picture, the print is in amazing conditon, looks brand new. And yes, this is the subscriber edition, numbered out of 16. EB says its out of 15 on the page but if you look through the comments DD confirms the s/e is out of 16. Everyone says this print is one you have to see in person and it really is, no picture will do it justice.

welp. so here’s the skinny… the fenway prints were printed pretty last minute in time for the G1988 sports show (i was still real sick, got a bit behind schedule), and only a handful of copies were shipped down to the gallery to display at the opening; the rest would be shipped to me to sign and number and return to the gallery for shipping. all i saw of the displayed copies were some photos, and i initially expressed some concern over the actual final product. however, i wanted to see the print in person before i made any real opinions about the future of the edition, which i knew wouldn’t be until after SXSW. today they arrived and i anxiously opened up the box and laid them out on the table; and my mouth aligned itself in that way it does when im not happy with something and i know i’m going to have a long day.

(you can skip the next paragraph if marginally technical pre-press talk is the opposite of the kind of thing you care about.)

so i opened up my files and drawings and poured over everything for a while. silkscreening is a fairly binary artform, either there’s ink or there isn’t, and thats really up to the ink. however, my drawing style isn’t that precise, and sometimes if i’m not careful those tiny hatched out lines aren’t REALLY as cut and dry and defined as they need to be to expose properly. unfortunately, that’s what happened here, the drawing wasn’t high contrast enough way way zoomed in down in the nitty gritty in those tight areas, and needed to be ‘opened up’ by adjusting the overall tonal nuances of the drawing. getting rid of the mid-tones that were clouding up those tiny open lines (remember silkscreening is binary, and grey is neither a 1 or a 0, and thus is bad), and giving all those white lines a little more breathing space.

i knew how to fix my problem, so that’s what were gonna do… i called the gallery, and we decided the best course of action was to dumpster/burn this entire run (NO. you can’t have one.), eat the production cost (oof…), and re-print them with the proper changes. because if you’re going to do something, best do it right. i spent entirely too long on this to send out something i’m not happy with, and i want you to be happy. i made all the proper arrangements with my printer and hes going to get started within the week on the reprint, and then we’ll get these out to you all as soon as possible.

the first photo shows a comparison shot vs the first printing, the second photo shows an example of how much i’m opening up those lines.

so. yup. that’s whats happening. we apologize for the delay, because i know a lot of you guys are absolutely rabid about this one, but id rather apologize for a production delay then apologize for the alternative.
for those who immediately put yours on ebay to make a quick buck, i apologize but with a lot less sincerity.

so after spending a good 45 minutes opening the giant crate box thing that arrived today, i finally got one of these out to photograph. this thing is goshdarn massive. click to see it bigger. good thing i bought a wide angle lens for my camera the other day. either way, after we made the necessary adjustments and fixed what needed to be fixed with my drawing, the end result i think looks a million times better and i’m infinitely happier with the final product. and i ASSUME you will be too.
…a comparison between the new and the older printing. like i said, it was really just about cleaning up and crisping up my linework before it got translated into solid blacks and whites. it was just too messy in a way i didnt expect, it didnt print well. but its much more open and punchier now. like that gibson grabber bass in the first photo. PUNCHY.

as for the sale of these, i think were aiming for early this coming week. im trying to arrange my helpers and their scheduling and all that, make sure they have a few solid open days, and finish up the loose ends mailorder i have now first (im comin for you guys, i promise).

(will trade prints for sox tickets. none of that bleacher shit…)

Does anyone know how they are going to flatten their uncut Fenway? I normally flatten posters with foam board, but I can't find any foamboard that is large enough for this print (greater than 40 inches long) without spending a fortune on 10 packs that cost like $125.

Nooo idea. I think I'm just going to let the framer deal with it. Maybe just get two more pieces of foam board, or do you think that would create a crease where the two pieces meet?
