This place has been dead lately, so let's discuss something that everyone loves. What is your favorite brewery, favorite type, favorite beer? Rave about the ones you love, warn us about the ones you hate.

I just picked up a pack of Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. I've heard great things about Dogfish Head, and even better things about the 90 minute, so I decided to spend the $9.99 on the 4-pack. Haven't tried it, but will later this week.

I've had Alaskan Amber and Alaskan Winter Ale, and both were amazing. I like Fat Tire, but there are definitely better ones out there. Frambozen (sp?) has been my favorite New Belgium beer so far, with Tripel a close second.

That used to be my favorite beer. It's still up there, but not my #1..

My favorite breweries are Dogfish Head, Bell's, Clipper City, Rogue, and others I'm sure I'm leaving out.

I usually gravitate towards Stouts and IPA's. My favorites are:

Bell's Two-Hearted Ale (my #1 beer)
DFH: World Wide Stout, 90min IPA, Immort Ale
Clipper City: Loose Cannon (DIPA), Winter Storm (Imperial ESB)
Rogue - Chocolate Stout
Dominion - Oak Barrel Stout, Tupper's Hop Pocket Ale

I'll have to check out the World Wide Stout and Immortal Ale. Hopefully it isn't too late to pick up a WWS this weekend, and I'll just have to wait a few months to try the Immortal.

Have you tried the 120min IPA? I'm going to pick one of those up next time they brew it (in March I think).

I also tried the Raison D'Etre. Good, but nothing to write home about.

I love stouts, but they seem to taste the best during the winter, so I usually only drink them from about December-end of February.

The WWS is really a one of a kind experience. There's not really anything else out there to compare it to. I've had the 120, but to be honest I didn't really like it. I found it to be really sweet, and syrupy. But, I would recommend anyone to try it once.

Ditto on the stouts, that's all I pretty much drink right now. Spring/Summer I drink IPA's, lagers and wheat beers, Fall I drink pumpkin ales.

I actually got to go to the brewery when we went on our Alaskan cruise almost 2 years ago. It's this tiny little hole in the wall, the "tour" consisted of standing in a room with the "guide" and listening to him talk. It was totally informative, and interesting but funny because their operation is so small. and they distribute all their own beer, so i love that i can buy it down here and it's still relatively cheap, usually around 7.50 for a 6 pack. :)

had one with dinner, and i think i'll go for seconds

I can get it locally at a few different shops. I know they only distribute to 13 states, so I'm not sure if yours is one of them.

I looked it up at a few different places around here, none of them carry it. I'm going to check some places back home (in Wisconsin). Also, I'll be in Michigan this weekend, so I'll swing by a store or two there.

I just wanted to say that Landshark is a fantastic beer. Nothing fancy about it. It's just plain good.

Also, I went to Panama City Beach this past weekend and visited Hofbrau Beer Garden. They brew their own beer. I had their Original, Dunkel, and Maibock (spelling??). They were all pretty good. The Dunkel was a little stout for my liking.

I have had some excellent beers lately. Within the past month, I've tried:
Delirium Tremens and Noel
St. Bernardus Abt 12 and Tripel
Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA and 120 minute IPA

All of them are excellent and I would recommend any one of them, though I think the Tremens is my favorite.

I really like both the WWS and 120 min IPA, but as you said 120 can be a little too sweet and syrupy at times. If you have the willpower, I suggest buying extra bottles and letting them age a while. They mellow nicely with age. Also, if you havent tried it, Allagash makes some real nice strong beers. Try some of the Allagash bottles like Curieux, Four, and Interlude.

I really want to start aging beers, but it's sooo hard not to drink them. I guess I need to find a place where they are out sight, out of mind. I had one Allagash beer, but can't remember which one, but it was barrel-aged I think. It was really good.

That's what the crisper drawers and bottle shelf of the door is for......aging beers. My gf is not too happy about the lack of space for food.

I just drank a Rogue Barleywine that was about 5-6 years old, which was surprisingly good. Of course the the guy that gave it to me had it sealed with electrical tape. So now I will pass on his advice and suggest wrapping the top of the bottle with electrical tape to keep it sealed well.

PhishDMB, do they sell 3 floyds out there?

They make a beer in the spring that is rated as one of the best in the world, but its eluded me for years. Super limited release. My goal for 2011 is to get a bottle.

Off of wiki

Dark Lord is the beer for which Three Floyds is most famous because it is widely rated as one of the best beers in the world [1][2]. The brewery describes it as a "Gargantuan Russian Stout brewed with coffee, molasses, and honey; 13% abv."[3] It is sold only on 'Dark Lord Day' which is the last Saturday in April. This event happens at the brewery in Indiana where each customer is limited to a set number of bottles (six bottles in 2008) and only cash is accepted.

In 2009, with Dark Lord Day becoming increasingly popular, Three Floyds sold 2000 "golden tickets" online in March. These tickets guaranteed the bearer the right to purchase four bottles and one sample of Dark Lord. The proceeds from the ticket sales were then donated to charity.

The rush to buy 2010 Dark Lord Day golden tickets was so overwhelming that Shopify had to temporarily disable inventory tracking for all of Shopify in order to keep the system up.

YES! I knew I was forgetting one. That stuff is lethal.

I don't like Southern Tier. Im convinced they use preservatives or artificial flavoring in their beer. Everything tastes too perfect, and has a really high abv. If is seems too good to be true, it prob is.

They add an insane amount of hops to just about everything they make. Increased amount of hops were used as a preservative by the British to ship beer to India, hence India Pale Ale. The higher alcohol also is a preservative as well. I don't know about them adding artificial flavoring or preservatives. In the Buffalo area, most of their beers don't stay on the shelf long enough.

They have a similar brewery in the area (I think a brother in law or something like that) called Ellicotville Brewery. They make their house beers in house, and the Brewer there is awesome. I've been there when they are making batches and there is nothing artificial about their stuff, so I assume the same about Southern Tier. Southern Tier also bottles the beer for Ellicotville as well.

Nice, yes I asked about the squall they were fresh out. Waiting for the 120 supposed to be out in April I think per the websites release calendar. I can't believe how different the IPA tastes due to how they add the hops the whole time during the boil. I am far from a big IPA van, but everything about the 90 was just awesome. From the smell to the initial sweetness then the hoppy bitterness towards the back. At the end it was just a popping sensation from the hops awesome! Might have to retire the Fat Tire and go to this full time.

side note, Dog Fish Head is the third largest micro brewery on the East Coast, behind Sam Adams and Yuengling. sorry, but Yuengling is not a microbrew (love their lager and black&tan) and Sam is probably the most over commercialized microbrewery every. not a bad thing, they still do beers the way they want.

I rescind my last comment about bells hop slam. Just had it from the bottle for the first time and then from the draft again and the were equally good. Think I might prefer the bottle though.

Tried the sam Adams barrel room collection stoney red last night. It was interesting. Like a red wine beer. A little champaign taste in there too. I give it a B.

Haven't tried it, but will later this week.

dogfish head has really great beers. just tried their world wide stout. $10 for a 12oz. i think its like 18% abv. def worth it if you like dark tasty beers. you cant go wrong with any dogfish head tho.

yeah they need to sell this year round in six packs. I might be buying whatever the binnys here gets in. They only got 24 bottles of the red and white and the guy said the squall is more limited and sells faster.

Tough to call Sam a micro brew too. They are the largest american owned brewery, period.

I know, they are huge, but less than 1% of the US beer market, according to their commercial. They still do things on a smaller scale, and make micro brews, but on a larger scale.

Theres a local bar called beer geeks that only sells micro/craft brews. Lighting was terrible but here's an idea how many they have on tap. They have about the same amount inbottles.

http://184.72.239.143/mu/4c1dd54f-3eb6-5e14.jpg

They change their menu every other day. Tommorow they tap founders kbs. I'm looking forward to trying it. Someone came In and ordered a budweiser (they dont carry it) and a Pinot grigo (the bartender in all seriousness asked what is that.). We thought he was messing around but he really didn't know.

Its a really cool concept for a bar. Board games u can borrow. Free darts. Great beer for decent prices. And knowledgeable bartenders. Wish I would of came up with the idea.

I think the vanilla bean is only for tasting they don't sell it is my understanding. The regular dark lord does come in bottles. As of now I don't know the allotment will be so I can't do a trade. I do get to have kbs off the tap tonight. Looking forward to that.

It sounded like they just couldnt meet the demand no matter how hard they tried. It was probably getting to the point where they would make a promise they they couldn't keep and it might have started to impact some of their business relationships. Sam Caligone (sp?) is a really smart guy and "gets it". Yuo gotta build strong relationships, and it sounds like they were spread way too thin to do that effectively. It is admirable. They're the best brewery on the east coast

I think it comes out in the fall. I'm going to try to get some this year. But I'm not sure how it all works. If they only release it at the brewery? What are the different types? Shit like that. Hopefully nothing changes in quality since AB is buying them.

I do have a bottle of breakfast stout and kentucky breakfast stout that I am going to try together and see which is better. I'd like to do the same with bourbon county and darklord.
