So, we find ourselves a few weeks out from what promises to be a great weekend of music and posters (and drinking).

Fri, Sat, and Sun are going to be extremely crazy for most of us, so I'm looking to plan a little gathering on Thursday night. It'll probably be downtown.

If you're interested, please let me know by PM or email (mxpxillini35@yahoo.com). If we get enough people together, I'll call a couple restaurants and set something up.

Off hand, I'm thinking pizza...probably either Giordano's or Lou Malnati's.

Let me know if you're interested!

Kurt...Gino's East is disgusting. It is quite possibly the worst deep dish pizza I have ever had (from a commercial pizza place)...

Let me know if you're up for it so I know whether or not to spend time planning...if it's just a few people then it'll be something more low-key...

Preparations continue on all fronts for “Dave Matthews Band Caravan” at Chicago’s Lakeside on July 8, 9 and 10, including the implementation of a wide variety of festival greening efforts, for both fans and artists. For more information on greening efforts visit www.DMBCaravan.com/Caravan-Greening. Single-day and three-day tickets are available now at www.DMBCaravan.com and by phone at 1-800-594-TIXX. VIP packages can also be purchased.

BritaŽ FilterForGoodŽ joins the Dave Matthews Band Caravan on the road this summer to encourage music fans to reduce their bottled water waste and join the Brita FilterForGood movement. Festival-goers are encouraged to bring reusable bottles and fill up for free at BritaŽ Hydration Stations™ by Haws CorporationŽ located throughout the Caravan grounds. Caravan artists and production crew are going bottled-water-free backstage, allowing everyone to help reduce the festival’s environmental footprint. Dave Matthews Band’s Warehouse fan club ticketholders will receive a complimentary special-edition NalgeneŽ reusable bottle, also available for purchase. Fans can learn more at www.facebook.com/BritaFilterForGood.

Reverb, an industry-leading provider of comprehensive, custom greening programs for music tours, is teaming up with the Dave Matthews Band Caravan to implement a wide variety of efforts. Reverb will be offsetting the carbon footprint of the event, fueling the buses with biodiesel, making sure there’s recycling wherever it’s needed, bringing out local environmental non-profits and more. In addition to reaching fans with a message of environmental sustainability, Reverb is teaming up with Effect Partners to make the Caravan backstage production as eco-friendly as possible. Efforts include:

On-site vehicles and generators are fueled with sustainable biodiesel
Recycling and composting stations limit waste throughout backstage areas
Brita Hydration Stations and reusable bottles to help reduce bottled water waste
Local and organic food options and compostable products are provided in catering
Each event’s carbon footprint is offset, including flights, hotels, on-site energy usage, ground transportation, freight and more

Fans can also take part in additional greening efforts, both online and onsite. Zimride.com allows fans to connect online to arrange carpools and save gas money, lessen their impact on the environment, and make some new friends on the ride. A Farmers Market at the Caravan dates will feature local, organic farmers peddling their goods. Fans can stop by for some tasty grub that’s good for them and food for the planet. Concert-goers can also stop by the Eco-Village to support local and national non-profit environmental organizations.

“Dave Matthews Band Caravan,” will stop at Chicago’s Lakeside on July 8, 9 and 10. The traveling festival will feature performances by 38 artists, including a full set by headliners Dave Matthews Band each night – the group’s only performances in the Midwest this year. It will mark the first-ever event held at Lakeside, located on the south shore of Lake Michigan. The panoramic vista of downtown Chicago across the waters will provide a stunning backdrop to the festivities.

With three stages for performances, the event will utilize 170 acres of the 600-acre site. Chicago Lakeside Development, LLC previously announced an ambitious redevelopment plan to transform the site into a vibrant, LEED-Neighborhood Development certified community, based on the principles of smart growth, urbanism and green building. In preparation for the festival, 59 tons of materials have already been removed from Lakeside and 145 acres have been cleared of wild brush and weeds. A majority of the materials removed are being recycled. Sixty percent of the workforce charged with removal was hired directly from the two adjoining southeast Chicago wards – Ward 7 and Ward 10.
