Dude let me know! That's my old stomping grounds...I usually stay at the hotel adjacent to Allstate (I think its the Wyndham O'hare). You can pay $10for hotel parking and walk across the lot to Allstate Arena and avoid all traffic after the show...its my little parking secret. Yeah...my company is planning on building 2 hotels just down the road (at Higgins and River Rd...across from the "famous" waterfall of Rosemont) and they will share a HUGE parking garage. At the very least I could work out a shuttle bus for Dave fans once it's built.

And working for a hotel makes traveling for DMB a hell of a lot easier. I plan on hooking people up with cheap rooms for the tour next summer...the only catch is I have to check you in (therefore I have to go to the show), and you can't trash the room, otherwise I'll kick your ass. But a $29 hampton with free breakfast should be incentive enough to cool it eh?

It was a little nerve-racking when I went up there. I haven't been on campus in 7 years, with the exception of attending my girlfriend's graduation ceremony this past May.

When I was in school last, I studied Public Relations. After working in a related field for the past 8 years, I don't care for it so much. I told them today that I was interested in studying Entertainment & Sports Promotion.

this is big news, my dad is a broker and my buddies dad is a broker for Wachovia.

Everyone just needs to have confidence in the market. This Bill will help fix the mistakes that happen.

I'm in no way qualified to even pretend to know a single thing about the market... but if "mistakes" led to us needing to throw a $700 billion life line, I wouldn't call them "mistakes".

I used poor wording. It is a very complicated situation, was recognized years ago but nothing was done, loans were given out to people who shouldnt have gotten them and greed was also a factor, essentially leading to the collapse of several big firms we are seeing today.

They are getting back on track and this bill will help big time but we wont see results for months

we've completely stopped using adenosine. Occaisonally, we need dobutamine (only for stress echoes), but use it hardly... My techs like it, the docs like it...so i say OK. It's just a pass through charge to insurance, so we really don't have too shop to hard for a low price vendor so much as using what they prefer...

go computer science, it will pay off in the long run. Bus. Admin. is too generic of a degree. That's what i was going for then found out i needed a few extra courses beyond what it takes for Bus. Admin. to get a Marketing Degree.

there is more of a demand for comp. sci. Have you ever thought about Accounting?

I agree. What I will most likely do is complete my degree in Social Science and get a job, then go back and double major in computer science. There are several jobs with the State and local government agencies that require a bachelors degree in any field. That will get my foot in the door and get me started with good benefits. I can complete my degree in Social Science by the end of 2010.

I'm so conflicted. I'm expecting a job offer tomorrow or Monday. I've been through 4 interviews. All signs point to yes.
If the offer is what I expect, it's a 25% pay raise.
Slightly more responsibility as a job position, but I already know the nitty gritty of the job. It's a Director position. The challenge is staff empowerment, which does not come as naturally to me as I'd like.

Facility is nice, clients are nice, staff are solid.

Commute jumps from 15 minutes one way to 45 minutes one way.

Better job, bummer of a commute, pay raise.

FYI, I'm an Occupational Therapist running a rehab department in a nursing home.

I was recruited. Wasn't seeking a new job, so this is new for me. I've never interviewed for any job without it being my initiation to seek the job.

Anyone ever been in this situation? I'm freaking out. The stakes are high.

Still very much conflicted. I expect the offer tomorrow.
Pros:
Significant pay raise.
Nicer facility
better clients
salaried (not hourly)
Step up in the career ladder
Slightly better technology
Better corporate support

Cons:
Commute Remember, this is Wisconsin. Winters suck
Life change. I'm happy where I am now. Do I need a change?
Lack of senority (start at the bottom of vacation accrual)
Salaried (not hourly).
Different pay cycle (less flex time during the week: i.e. - I can work a Sunday for a Friday. wouldn't be able to do that at the new job because it is not a clinical position)

I really don't know what to do. Opportunities like this don't come around often. But is it worth the risk? We are a contractor in the building I work in now, and with our building changing ownership they could decide on another rehab agency, although I don't think that will be the case. New facility is in house- the building can't get rid of the therapy company because it's their own!

Leaning towards not taking it. That commute/time away may just be the reason.

you know, the first thing i thought is that if you weren't looking for a new job, you should be very hesitant to leave where you are. and you're happy there!! what if the new coworkers suck or the contract sucks or anything sucks?
if you don't like it, remember how bad the economy is and how hard it is to find a new (good) job. honestly the thing that sounds really good is the money, and are you making shit?
i mean, i haven't thought so, because you've been SO lucky to not only take the time off, but also afford to travel to all these shows!!!

plus, the commute. i freaking moved to lafayette from indy because i couldn't stand driving there three times a week to see my boyfriend. both options ended up sucking (the commute, and then actually moving there...now if i could only get him to move out of that dumb town!)

argh, i'm gonna go off a limb and say my personal opinion is to not take it. too many risks that may not be worth taking right now. either way, i hope whatever road you take makes you happy! that is THE MOST important thing!!!

call me if you need to chat!!! xoxoxoxox

Very happy. I know I've been up and down through it all, but we've worked out the kinks and the flexibility issue and the vacation issue. The commute, well, I'll just have to deal with it.
Yay!

Congrats!!

so about those hookers and blow you speak of...

Engineer at GM. Happy I don't work at Toyota these days...

About six years ago I worked for r.bourgeois, it's a French company that manufactures parts for GM. I was the only person in the US office, which sucked. I arranged getting the containers from France to Detroit via truck, then ship, then customs, then truck, then train, then truck. Major pain in the ass. All of the parts (mostly stator cores) were going to Detroit for the first six months I worked there. Then they went to Texas (more logistics) and the Mexicans were coming and getting them. Then we bypassed Texas altogether and I shipped directly to Mexico.

I remember a guy I dealt with at GM, Monty something. When we were going through the whole "moving assembly operations to Mexico" crap, he told me that the assembly employees at GM Detroit were costing the company about $50 per person, per hour. In Mexico, GM had buses that would go pick up people and their kids. GM paid the daycare costs, provided breakfast and lunch for everyone and paid their health insurance. The Mexicans cost GM about $5 per person. Pretty amazing.

I work for an Architecture/Engineer/Survey firm. We have about 200 employees. I work in Architecture and deal only with CVS/pharmacy (our biggest client). I only work on remodels. I travel throughout the country measuring existing CVS stores, drawing them up in AutoCAD, then take CVS's prototypical layout (at the time) and draw up a set of construction documents for permits for the store to be remodeled. It's a fun job that has taken me to damn near every state in the country in the 3 years I've worked there.

Definitely some truth to that (although I don't know how accurate those numbers are, I have heard even higher costs that you did). But some recent re-negotiations of the union contracts have made GM/Ford/Chrysler much more competitive with the non-union plants that the Japanese/German/Korean companies have here in the south. Really, I don't see how anyone can afford to have any manufacturing here in the US with the cost of labor in Mexico - but obviously there is some political pressure to keep plants here. I'm glad there are plants here because I think manufacturing is a critical part of our economy. But in the end, companies are in business to make money, not to provide jobs to Americans. I just hope our gov't can do more to encourage companies to keep manufacturing jobs here.

Events Accounting Supervisor for Levy Restaurants at The Bradley Center ...

HUH???

Projecting and banking numbers for operating sales in the concessions/bars for all the concerts/Bucks/MarquetteBasketball/AdmiralsHockey ...
Pretty decent gig 60% of the time ... I get to wear jeans/street clothes to blend in and I can watch some of the events, as I am primarily busy pre-event and post event; My 'busy' season runs October - April, when I work an average of 50+ hours a week (and never get a weekend off) ... but also means summers are really flexible and allows for ample travel/DMB/Brewers ...

I occassionally get sent to other Levy venues/events, including Lambeau Field and PGA tournaments - This year might be spending some time in Chicago at Ravinia and Wrigley (sigh) ...

I also caption phone calls for the hearing impared part time ...

sounds pretty fun. but that's a long "busy season." I live like 10 minutes away from Ravinia! A lot of my friends work there.
