No one in the music industry really cares about Sacramento... and I'm not just saying that... It was made apparent last night at Raley Field.
First of all... they played at Raley Field... a baseball stadium... Home of the worst accoustics of all time... well... second to Sacramento's Arco Arena. Maybe they were thinking that SleepTrain in Marysville is 'too far' from Sacramento which is keeping the fans away. I saw 'p'shaw' to this. Music fans in Sacramento suck. There is very little local support for ANYTHING in Sacramento.
One of a couple highlights of the evening... At the 'floor' merchandise kiosk thing, I met a woman and her husband from Seattle. Very nice people. She was wicked excited... she got 4th row center tickets. Upon leaving, I told her to "say hey to Steffie for me". She didn't know what I was talking about... which is strange, cause I thought everyone knew Steffie. Weird.
So anyway... Dave came out to introduce Robert Randolph and the Family Band, and he kept calling it "Sleeptrain". He did an intro saying, "Welcome to Sleeptrain... your ticket to a better night's sleep" Granted, there is a GIANT billboard above home plate saying Sleeptrain, but he should know it's NOT Sleeptrain, no matter how much we all wanted it to be.
Robert Randolph kicked butt HUGE. I thoroughly enjoyed their set. About 1/2 way through, I looked around, and saw... MAYBE one microphone by the soundboard... but it may have been something set up by the band. There were NO mics in the air.
This may have been fortunate. Like I said, no one cares about Sacramento... Including Dave. We started off with PNP/Rapunzel. Good start, but it immediately went downhill. It was the MOST chill show I've ever seen. There was MAYBE 3 songs that I danced to after PNP/Rapunzel.
The LONE song that saved this night was Two Step. Robert Randolph came out and KICKED THE CRAP OUT OF THAT SONG. If there were any mics in the air, this is the ONLY reason to download this show. Nothing... except the afore mentioned Two Step... set this song apart from any other show.
I had to remind myself several times, that I was at a DMB concert. Not everyone gets a chance to see DMB. I am very, VERY fortunate to have seen DMB so many times, and I should stop my bitching.
It was a good time. My brother and I had fun throughout the show, even if the music was keeping everyone's feel still.
Of the 11 shows I've seen, I put this in the #10 spot. The only one that kept it out of the last spot was the Friday SBC (another baseball park) show from last year.
