After getting that unfortunate email yesterday, I decided to lift my spirits. So I bought this. It will become my official concert poster tube. It expands and is 4.25" in diameter. I'm excited.

Yeah...I wanted to get one of these too...I am worried about being let in with it though too.

Yeah, you might encounter serious resistance with that guy. I wasn't allowed to bring my tubes (cardboard) into bristow or raleigh shows, so I quit trying. Plus that looks like a bazooka.

Or a huge ass thermos

If they ask, just tell them you have "Diabeetus" (but you have to say it like Wilford Brimley), but it's the kind where you have to have sugar alot...so you have to tote around sugar drinks...then pop the cap off and pretend to drink...

You'll be all good...

Do this: whatever papers/invoice/instructions came with this (awesome) poster tube, be sure to take those to the show with you. Did you buy it online? Go back to that site and print off the homepage and then the page that sells this particular tube.

My point is, show up with something you can show the guy checking bags and stuff that its a poster tube, not one of those cool retractable rocket lauchers from Commando. Show him something that legitimizes it. And of course open it up on both ends and show him the insides. I know that its tempting to take kraft paper in with you, but you are problably better off taking just the tube and hoping for the best.

Also: What unfortunate email?

That is the email I was referring to. They let blankets in. Can I call it my blanket thermos?

What exactly did they tell you? Was it an actual reason or just, "no." I don't handle bullshit too well. If the dude can't give me a good reason, it's possible I'll mouth off. :bitch It's from Japan and it's really for artwork.

Picked up my tube today. It's black and red, not grey and red, so it looks better. I'll post a pic later after the waterproof testing!

So....is it waterproof?

I wouldn't call it waterproof, but definitely water resistant. You could easily prevent water from getting in if you wanted to. I'm going to try some modifications to see if I can make it better.

That hilarious!

Why couldnt you mail something like this? I'm gonna say you should be able to. Whats the difference between this and a cardboard tube? As long as there isnt a strap on it I see no reason why you couldnt mail this...

If you bought it, would you send it out to someone?

If we were trading, i'd have no problem sending it to you and you mailing mine back in it.

i had one of these in college for my drafting class, good tubes imo. Walked to classes while it was raining and my drawings stayed dry...not to mention, my drawings were on velum, so if those were to get wet they'd basically dissolve :thumbsdown

only thing i see being a problem with this tube is all the indentions on the inside to make it bigger or smaller, may mess up some edges on trying to get it out. Atleast thats what the inside of mine looked like. anyway good luck, hopefully they'll let you take it in!

haha yeah true, just figured since they are clear and open on both ends, the staff at the venue could be more lenient? Anyway, just thought i'd share..i'm sure yours will be fine :thumbsup

Wouldn't that be another reason to bring them to shows?

Also, these (The Alvin ones) are sold at Hobby Lobby. Around $15 I think...and they have those 40% off coupons all the time...

I was just thinking that'd be one more reason they wouldn't let it in. You know me though... :cool
