Fan Sullies the AM.org Name and My Name

Well, Stefan wrote a new blog entry on his myspace about his account of the creepy guy at C-Ville, and then just a little something about the whole tour in general. But he mentioned nancies and ants again, and how it's fine for the both positive and negative opinions to be on there, but how he stays away from them. Well, it seems a certain Ant sent Stefan an email about how disgusted he was with the band following the weekend, and it seemed to piss Fonzie off, who called out the fan by name, Jared!

Only then did I find this other "Jared" had made a thread on Ants publishing his letter he sent. Now, I know Ants may be in a slight decline as of late, but we all still love it. And this guy goes and discredits Ants even further, not to mention my name! Me and at least one other Ant went in to clarify :lol

I get so mad at the 'hard core' fans. I think the real fans will enjoy anything the band puts out there, especially compared to what other bands put out there and how un-frequently other bands tour and release CD's.
I was so glad when I had heard of this message board because I was sick of getting flamed for having an opinion out there other than theirs. Jared I have your back, you didn't even come to mind when I read Fonz' myspace blog.

Crazy guy, disgruntle fan, and a whole summer of FUN!

So everyone is asking so Ill address the crazy guy walking on stage incident first. I really dont know the whole story but I can tell you all what I know so far. Our security told me after the show that the crazy guy was wondering around the arena yelling and screaming about nothing that made any sense. He was really bugging people so the police went to get him and remove him but they could not find him. That is when I turned around at the end of Intro and saw this crazy looking dude in a trench coat walking toward me and staring at Dave. Before I knew what was happening our personal security and drum tech was man handling this guy down the stairs. I guess this guy had no ID and was not the most informative with the police. It really freaked us all out and was not the type of ending to a great year that we would have expected. Im curious if he went to jail and what his deal was but I think that he climbed up the back of the stage, through the back wall, and through my amp and Carters drum raiser. This was not your normal stage rusher. This whole thing still has me a bit freaked.


One great thing about our fans is the way they network between each other and organize such sites as nancies.org and antsmarching.org, which help connect a lot of people who are fans of ours. Now we all know that sometimes the negative comments on the boards seem to overpower the intention of discussions and debates that our fans love to engage in, and because of this, I do not visit these sites. However, I love the fact that my myspace site has become in its own right a forum for fans who are positive and want to be heard by someone in the band. I believe that because of all the positive suggestions through this site we have played some songs that frankly we might have just forgotten to pull out this summer. So this guy Jared e-mailed me through my site about how we should have rehearsed for those couple of days that we had off so we could play new songs for the final show, and how we should have done this, and done that, and how he'll never travel to our show outside his town again. I respect his opinion, but he really should have kept his comments to the boards that are used to this type of negative comments. I have had a slew of e-mails telling me about his post on antsmarching and how much they disagree and think that this guy is a jerk. I only bring this up in a blog because I am wiped out after these 2 hometown shows and felt that I gave 100% and to be judged as if he was the Duke of Live Shows and knows what it takes to put one on was unproductive and down right disrespectful to me and the rest of the band. This is all I will say about this but I just wanted to put it out there since he felt it so necessary to give me such a harsh reaction to his experience in such a personal manner.

Okay, I want to return to the good vibes that Ive felt all summer and thank every one of you for supporting us and coming to enjoy us enjoying what we love to do. In the words of Dave Matthews, "I just love playing this one because it makes me feel so good!" Thats why we play our music, it just makes us feel so good!

When I read my name on his blog I actually questioned myself for a split second, like, 'wait, what? did i really?!' Then I found out who it was on Ants. When my brother read it he did the same thing, "good job Jared, you pissed off Stefan."

And while I'm on the topic, I hate Jared the Subway guy too. I guess just because it's not the most common name, it becomes a joke on all Jareds. Some guys at work last night were making Subway jokes. Not that it bothered me in the slightest, but he's such a dork.

"Crazy Guy" and responce to critical e-mail

Whats Up? Okay, I have to kill this rumor, Halloween was nowhere on the set, and that was not what Dave and Carter were mouthing to each other before crazy guy lurked on the stage. We were planning on Last Stop, and as much as we love this song and thought it would be cool playing this song at the end of the last show, that guy freaked us all out pretty bad so we played Stay and got off the stage quick. Some one told me that they heard him screaming, Look at what they are doing to your son, Father! as he was getting hauled away by the police. WHEW!

One note to people who send me messages, I would never make public anything that is sent via my message box, I only wrote a blog about the disgruntle fan because he told me that he posted the same thing basically on antsmarching.org and said on the thread that he was sending me a message on my myspace page. He made himself public before I was ever involved. I only brought it up because a bunch of people where sending me messages and it seemed to be the topic of the moment. That being said, I will stay away from challenging fans that put up public threads that challenge us. It was probably in bad taste for me to do so. I would much rather spend that extra time writing music in odd time signatures and grooves that make me feel like dancing, loving, and jumping.

I receive both negative and positive messages through this site daily and respect everything and every opinion that is brought to me. I learn from my fans everyday and have taken every critical comment as a way to improve in areas that I might need improving.

I go to the West Coast to see my girls at last. Ive had a bunch of stuff to take care of before I could leave VA. I am crazy excited about going home. My wife and I are going to see our buddies in Godsmack play in Irvine this Saturday. She wants to see some fireworks and they do a pretty good job with that.

P.S. I just read the comment on my page by Jared, I think it was big of him to try to explain his feelings and why he felt the way he did so publicly,I'm sorry if he left our show feeling let down.
