My ex got me into DMB and I haven't looked back. Their music has gotten me through some tough times and I've done some travelling and met lots of great people because of it. Including Dave himself. That was awesome. He's so tall *drools*
I will never get sick of Granny, Grace is Gone or Ants Marching. Those songs are the corner stone of it for me.

back to a DMB story...i myself listen to DMB most of the time...i have a 6-cd changer in my car...5 or 6 of those are filled w/ dmb at all times...now, i don't wanna sound closed minded, cause i do listen other things; it's just that the music of dmb moves me like no other...i've seen my share of bad times in my life...each and every one of those times, the music of dmb has helped me through it...the things that dave sings about are so real and you can find a song to help you deal w/ pretty much any situation...and it's not only that he talks about real stuff in life, cause a lot of bands can do that...it's the way he expresses himself...i'll just sit there and even just read the lyrics to the songs...to me, poetry at its finest...and then, just adding the AMAZING musicianship to those fine words buckles my knees...i'll share some stories in a bit...this is my intro into this thread...i'll be back!

As far as the music, I do listen to a lot of other music more than I do DMB. As far as the experience of a live show, or the live recordings, nothing can top it. In addition to that, the friendships and memories that the band has brought to my life are very special to me. The band will always have a special place in my life because of it.

I used to think my best friend who got me into DMB was a pretty big fan. But then it turned out I got way into them, and it made it seem like he was much less interested. So, sometimes I worry I'm losing interest like him, and his older brothers who were big fans but just lost interest.
Then I listen to an album I haven't listened to in a while, or a new live album, or just a new version of an older song and it's like my faith is reaffirmed. Usually when I'm in my Jeep, driving home, beating the shit outta the steering wheel like it's Carter's set and doing every yell and inflection Dave does.
Tonight was the LiveTrax 3 album that I just finally got. I stayed in the jeep in front of my apartment til Rapunzel was over and was happy and thought "Damn, I love this band!"

I will never get sick of Granny, Grace is Gone or Ants Marching. Those songs are the corner stone of it for me.A guy I was crushing on when I was 20 got me into the band. My first show was amazing and I bought my 'crush' and myself tix. The relationship never ended up taking off because me moved across the country for school (when he came back he was a jerk as well) but at least I got something from the guy.
This band has gotten me thru some hard times as well and I have dedicated my life to bringing the same joys to other peoples lives. There is just SOMETHING about DMB that people connect with and makes them likeable.

11.02.93 Carter's Birthday Show at Trax
My favorite tape of all time. Not necessarily worthy in terms of starting a thread, so I tried to find an appropriate thread to put this info out there. This thread seemed to cover the bases. :cake :banana

From Rolling Stone...
November 9, 1993: Dave Matthews Band releases first album
In 1991, South African bartender Dave Matthews was slinging drinks in Charlottesville, Virginia when one of his regulars encouraged him to lay down a demo. Shyly, Matthews agreed, and the process led him to local drummer Carter Beauford, bassist Stefan Lessard, saxophonist LeRoi Moore, violinist Boyd Tinsely and keyboardist Peter Griesar. They played around town and considered Dumela (Twsana for "hello") for their group name before agreeing on the eponymous one they still carry.
The group's full-length debut, Remember Two Things, landed two years later on their newly created Bama Rags record label. Its cover art was an autostereogram (a distorted image popularized in the "Magic Eye" fad) of a peace sign; the live-recorded tracks were equally pacific, including the still-popular show staple "Ants Marching."
Dave Matthews Band followed the effort with their 1994 major-label debut and crossover hit, Under the Table and Dreaming. All members, minus Griesar (who left shortly after joining) and Moore (who died in 2008), remain in the band today.
