Is it EVER too early to start one of these threads? I sure dont think so! Could 2010 be the best year yet?

Regardless, here is a heads up that the Wildhorse Campground has decided to start selling passes early this year. You can go to their website now and reserve your spot in the best camp site around. I suggest to act fast, once word gets out, these will dwindle.

DRINK TOO MUCH!!!!!

I am making the trek back this year! Its been to long since I've last been to Mecca (08 :lol). Wildhorse is definitely the place to be! Toupstown is the shit. Wildhorse Cafe is the shit, Jerry knows what he is doing. Can't wait.

Food for pop up tent use is a very good trade.

I like Vantage because there are mucho trees. Add the view of the Columbia, watching the crazies cliff jump, beer, and the excitement of a few shows on your heels, and it makes for one heck of a weekend :hysterical

Hilton Garden Inn in Yakima is really nice...but it's about 45-55 min from the venue...

There are a couple hotels in Ellensburg (about 25-30 min away)...but there's a huge ass rodeo every labor day weekend...so prices are through the roof...

Nope, I'm a taper. Unfortunately I don't have enough batteries to get through three shows without a recharge. Plus sleeping on a bed is pretty awesome. :)

I stayed in Ellensberg last year - it wasn't too expensive but there were a TON of rodeo people there.

Check out Inn at Moses Lake. I just made my reservations there for Labor Day weekend. It's $129.99 a night (+ tax)...free breakfast and it's close McDonalds, Subway, Starbucks, Denny's and a few gas stations (gas, beer and ice). It's the 2nd Moses Lake exit, in the same lot as Holiday Inn Express and Comfort Suites (both of which are more expensive). I've stayed there the past 2 years and it's a very clean place- about a 35 minute drive from the Gorge if I remember correctly. Free WiFi too...

I'd like to try camping at Wildhorse this year but I guess I run with the "uppity" crowd and they tend to like the hotel route. I like sleeping on beds as well...

Pick it up from a rep in Seattle, It's only a $5,900 tent :loco

Space Station™ is a single-wall, base-camp tent, dining hall, communications center or hospital. The canopy’s domed shape minimizes wind load and is practically impervious to water and UV damage thanks to waterproof and titanium oxide coatings. Space Station’s three zippered doors, large roof vent and five perimeter vents help circulate air and provide exit options. Bar-tacked stress points and nylon pack cloth reinforcements add durability to the structure which is supported by strong Yunan Scandium Expedition PF poles. Perimeter floor band makes waterproof seats when snow benches are carved.

However everyone raves about Wildhorse. Is there any type of shuttle to the Venue from there? If their is, is it a feasible option? Not like one shuttle with 200 people trying to get on it etc.

There is. They have 2 buses that run before the show and after. After the show once the bus is full it takes you back and then goes back to pick up more people.

+1

The food at the cafe is ALWAYS money! Deliciousness whether you are inebriated or not. Reasonably priced too (IMO). And yes, you HAVE to bug Jerry for a shot of Jager!

In all seriousness, until another option becomes available, the Wildhorse is by far and away the best spot to be. Some of the most hardcore fans, nice facilities, great food (coffee stand too), shuttles to and from the venue, rv hookups, nice/thick grass, room to play sporting games and really some of the nicest people run the place. Scott will treat you right!

It usually sells out within a day or two of the shows officially being announced (if that).

This year they started selling much earlier than I can ever recall, so its hard to say. Always best to get your spot when you can.

The problem is I gotta get a group of 7 on board. I might just grab one anyway. You may just see me and my tent solo. Or it sounds like I'll have no problem selling it. Thanks for all the input.

Last year we were surrounded by douche bags in Gorge Camping and it really began to cramp our style by day 3. We had everything from underage girls who couldnt handle their liquor, to inconsiderate tweakers that we caught roaming through our crap at 5 a.m. I've heard overall Wildhorse is mostly die-hard fans and seems to pretty kick back.

And this cafe sounds like a great alternative to cooking several times a day. We usually make a gigantic breakfast...liquid lunch..dinner at the show (since we have 3 hours from our poster sprint to show starting)..then make dinner again when we get back. Sounds like we can just make breakfast and never have to deal with cooking again. I like it.

It is official. I will be trying out Wildhorse this year. And for anyone that dosent know, George, WA can throw you any kind of wheather. Blistering Sun, Dry Wind, Rain, Hail, Ive seen it all.

2 Things you must always have when camping at the Gorge: EAZY-UP and STAKES (Lots of stakes, and not those little cheap ones that you can bend with one strike, but real heavy stakes) Last year we watched whole camp sites blow away.

Truth.

I've gone to the Gorge 6 straight years from 04-09 and plan to hit it again this year. We've seen it all as well. Tents blowing away (including ours...while we were in it), dust storms, lightning and thunder, 110 degree heat, freezing cold nights (during the show and after), and on and on. We've had our chairs stolen, our campsite invaded, and seen bathrooms flooded.

We started hotelling it about 2 years ago in Moses Lake and haven't looked back since. Hot showers, indoor pool and jacuzzi, 10 hour nights on a soft bed, tv and internet, a microwave, fridge, and stove, and complimentary breakfasts are more than enough to convince me. ;) :)

I've considered a Hotel but it always falls back to having to drive to and from the venue.

Plus for me, part of the Gorge experience is camping. We'll see about this Wildhorse place. Last year's camping experience in the Gorge campgrounds was terrible, if Wildhorse is the same I may have to go the Hotel route.

Camping at Wildhorse is 85% of the reason why I go to the Gorge. If you must, at least get an RV and split with some people. But hoteling at the Gorge should be a crime. If you want to use a hotel go to Alpine or SPAC. We don't take too kindly to hotellers. :sob

The Wildhorse is actually situated in a much more forgiving landscape. Still windy, but nothing like the Gorge campground.

And the other thing about he Wildhorse is that everyone who tends to camp there tends to be completely chill. I understand the worries being thrown about (ie. douchebags at the Gorge campground). Wildhorse is nothing like that. I can promise you that you will thoroghly enjoy yourself!

I've been thinking about what Im gonna do for tickets too. I mean with all the gates opening at the same time, GA pit people are going to be in line at like Noon. I dont want to have to stand in line all day, then stand in GA Pit for 6 hours just to hold a spot. And if you get up front reserved its essentially just the back of GA Pit. Their isnt much incline in reserved and Im short so middle/back of reserved may be no bueno also.

Lawn actually isnt sounding that bad. At least we can sit as a group, move freely, go to the bathroom during crash and come back to the same spot, etc.

What's everyone else thinking about Gorge seating?

i do not understand what the deal is with people worrying about GA PIT sections in a pavilion. To me it's no different than any other show that has seats. Like who sits down in the pavilion of a show anyways? Granted i will not try or get PIT seats because i don't want to be shoved and shit. I'd much rather have my own personal space / seat. Just say the PIT takes up the 1st 10 rows at the Gorge. So the first row of seats is row 11. Why would you be able to see better if the people in front of you were standing in a specified spot or just clustered together in a PIT? It's the same thing or am i missing something? It's not like i ever get within the 1st 10 rows anyways through the WH so the only people it hurts is like '98 maybe '99 members that are used to getting great ass seats.

For most venues I think your spot on, in it wont really be that different. Its just now early WH members and people who pay good money to be upfront will be mixed in with underage first year fans that can get annoying.
I think for the Gorge though, its gonna be more of a problem than we think. Their already isnt enough security/staff to keep any kind of order. Throw in 10 rows of Pit in front of that and you got yourself a party.

Have you ever been to the Gorge? They have a hard enough time keeping chairs in row form. There are no "sections" at the Gorge, either. So while they may try and make multiple levels, the entire thing is going to turn into one giant clusterfuck. How are they even going to designate a pit area? It's going to be a joke.

I have a feeling the Gorge may turn into a repeat of RFK in 2001.

Grass, food, cool people (patrons), cool people (owners), flat ground, honey pot's (sani cans) cleaned daily, and showers make Wildhorse where you want to be

Nice. I'm feeling like this is a must do now.

sounds like there will be a lot of people going to the Wildhorse. I think we should all wear name tags, so we know the the heck is who :sadie

we need a fresh round of Gary! stickers to slap on our tents so we know where eachother are. That way we know where to go when we have an extra jello shot or need a J buddy

Yeah. Probably not the best time, but it was that or 11 PM, and not gettting back to Baltimore until the next morning. I plan on leaving camp by 8AM Monday, so I make it there by noon. Hopefully.

YOu should leave earlier than 8am... lots of traffic.... id say leave by 7.

Whoever shows up first just needs to tell them if you have more people in your group.

And it helps if you show up on Thursday or early Friday.

we should. There's already "toupstown" (ants kids) and a Warehouse group site (forget what they call themselves).

This would call for a giant Gary! flag...not optional

The way I look at it, why separate ourselves, when we can all form one giant metropolis.

Its gotta be Garysville up in the Wildhorse! We've got to mob it together.

Our group will be known as the one that leaves considerably earlier for the shows than all the rest.

Let's make a big sign that reads, "im at ur boothz, buyin ur posterz"

I wish everyone knew how much Vantage blows the rest of the campsites away...... You can walk about 100 feet and dive into the Columbia River.....There is cliff jumping right there too (for those who dare) ....and also, a full fledged market about 150 feet away....... The rest of the campsites are just refugee camps that resemble a dust bowl....... Vantage has an indoor swimming pool and also REAL BATHROOMS THAT ARE CLEAN!!! Peace!!!

I've stayed in Vantage and found it not cracked up to be everything everyone thinks it is. Is it cool to swim in the river? Hell yeah! But I'd take driving there during the day over having to drive 30min back and forth from the concert each night. Savage wants to get his drink on!

And I'm sorry, but those bathrooms are maybe clean through N1 at the MOST.

So now that the request period is open I have a few questions:

The price for the Gorge is:

$70 GA Pit
$70 Reserved
$48.50 Lawn

So I have different scenarios in my head assuming that the seniority/random nights stay the same but my main thought/question is this:

N1 (for example) would it make sense to choose best available with an early WH Membership because you're more likely to get selected in the "first round" confirmations and then because it's seniority, you've got a great shot of sitting close/getting pit and no shot of getting lawn. Or is that a false assumption?

False assumption. Each night it's completely random on who gets tickets and who doesn't, and on seniority nights seats are THEN given out by seniority. But a first year member and a first day member have the same initial shot at getting tickets.

But choosing Best Available doesn't give you a better chance of making that first round, it only means you have a chance of getting lawn tickets if you DON'T get into that first round.

Oh my gosh. It's been a long week. I knew that but got confused reading the WH Guidelines because it said you have a better shot of getting confirmed by selecting Best Available. It just meant getting confirmed for the show altogether, not reserved like I made it seem in my head. :blush

Thank you for the clarification!!! :)

Obviously you have never been to Wildhorse... Has some of the greenest plushy grass I have ever seen. The Cafe is the SHIT, free coffee, shots of Jager from Chef Jerry, and its open 2 hours AFTER the show!!! Free shuttle to and from the venue, it's only a mile out anyways. The Honey Buckets are cleaned DAILY!!! Hot showers, with cold showers too if you don't want to wait in line. I've been to Vantage but its vastly overrated. The river is nice, but it's not worth the hassle of having to drive over there and back, plus Wildhorse has everything you need food wise, and everybody stocks up on so much booze that people GIVE it away my Sunday.

Does anyone know how often the bus makes trips from the Wildhorse to the venue before and after the show??

clwatt3
Jan 30, 2010, 09:53 AM
I think the first bus was at 5, maybe a bit sooner. def before the gates open. After the show as soon as the bus is full it goes back unloads and come back to pick up more people. THe last bus waits awhile, maybe hour and a half after the show.

Just booked my flight.

Trip looks a little something like this:

Sept 1 - Flight from Roanoke to Seattle, picking up rental car, exploring downtown Seattle, Mariners game
Sept 2 - More exploring of Seattle, Perhaps another Mariners game
Sept 3 - Gorge N1
Sept 4 - Gorge N2
Sept 5 - Gorge N3
Sept 6 - Day trip to Portland to explore (I've never been to the Pacific NW before and want to make the most of it)
Sept 7 - Dropping off rental car, flight from Seattle to Roanoke
Sept 8 - Back to work (booo)

Since this is my first Gorge trip and my GF will be with me I am probably gonna go the hotel route. No camping for me.

What do you seasoned Gorge goers think about this itinerary?

Also, how is the drive in and out to the Gorge if you are not camping? is it bad? I know the hotels are 30-45 minutes away but I'm talking more about the ease of getting into the venue and parking and such.

Interested in hearing all your thoughts.

The drive into the Gorge has always been easy as long as you get there decently early. The drive out is terror unless you leave early or buy premier pass - we always just buy it at as we drive in, no need to pre-purchase. Then you have your private exit at the end of the night and you're out of there in a few minutes.

Just FYI...I think there is a difference between Premier parking and VIP parking.

Premier you buy through ticketmaster and it lets you park close and get in early.

VIP parking lets you park just a tad closer, but you have your own entrance and exit. I'm not sure if you can get in early, but I would imagine that is the case. For the sake of these boards, it puts you closer to the merch booth mid-way down the hill...so you'd be one of the first at that booth...but you're screwed for the booth up at the very top of the venue...

I personally would take VIP if you can find it...but the premier is AT LEAST the way to go if you want to get on the road ASAP...
